RENEWAL IN WORSHIP

Scriptures:
Romans 12:1-2:
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

The act of worshipping is the laying down of ourselves and placing honour onto the lord, this shows obedience and devotion to our God. In this, worship helps renew the mind and bring peace to our souls. By using our hearts of worship, we can acknowledge God’s sovereignty, abiding in his love and mercy.

Colossians 3:16:
"Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts."

Fully immerse yourself in God’s words, cherish them in your heart. Worship fully with open hands and open heart. There are many ways to worship and praise the Lord, one of the major ways we see this exemplified in the bible is through hymns and songs of worship. Music is an awesome way to pour out your heart to Jesus, you can find countless great examples of this in the Psalms.

Reflect:
What are some different ways we can worship God in our lives?

Why is worship important for our relationship with God?

How can worship transform our mind?

Have you ever experienced God’s presence while worshipping? How would you describe this experience?

When was the last time you poured your heart out to the Lord? Is there something you're holding onto that you can offer up to the Lord?

Prayer:
You can take a moment now to close your eyes and listen to the word being sung over you. You can choose to focus on the lyrics and let them minister to you or take some time to find a quiet place for yourself and God.

  • Open up your heart and give space for yourself to receive Jesus’s word
  • If you feel comfortable you can posture yourself with your arms out as if you were about to receive a gift or with your hand raised up reaching out to God
  • Here are some examples on things you can pray for:
    • A prayer of surrender, handing yourself over to the Lord and into His care
    • A prayer of gratitude, thanking the Lord for His goodness and how He reveals Himself to you
    • An open hearted prayer, confide in the Lord the depths of your heart, bring them to Him as a dear friend
If you see others around you in need of prayer and you feel comfortable to pray for them, ask them if they want prayer. If they would like prayer, you can ask them if they feel okay with you placing a hand on their shoulder. In these moments you can ask God what to pray and listen to where He might be prompting you. If you are unsure what to pray, you can always pray a blessing and a prayer of encouragement over them.

Next Steps:
When you are ready, re-engage with the worship taking place in the room. After tonight, try to find some ways to implement worship within your daily life. This may look like setting aside 10-15 minutes a day and listening to some worship music, reading some scriptures or praying to God, try to remove all distractions and give this time to you and God only.

Here are some options for worship:
